The love affair between Rome and its fountains goes all the way back before the middle ages. As you roam its streets you will soon realise the Eternal city has a collection of fountains like no other in the world. It was believed that fountains reflected the generosity of the pope toward the local Romans. It also secured them a near water source that could easily be carried home.
Rome is home to over 2000 fountains, I have picked out my favourite 4 to share with you!
THE FONTANA DEL PANTHEON
Admire the beautiful statues of dolphins in this fountain that is topped by an Egyptian obelisk, as it stands guarding the ancient Pantheon.
TREVI FOUNTAIN – FONTANA DI TREVI
Trevi Fountain is the most beautiful fountain in Rome and is also the largest fountain in the city. Myth has it that If you throw one coin: you will return to Rome, if you throw two coins: you will fall in love with an attractive Italian and if you throw three coins: you will marry the person that you met.
This place can get very crowded try to reach there at 6am especially in the summer!

FONTANA DEI QUATTRO FIUMI (Fountain of the Four Rivers)
Located in Piazza Navona, lays four different fountains that represent gods of the four great rivers in four continents. The Nile in Africa, the Ganges in Asia, the Danube in Europe and the Río de la Plata in America.
In front of the four fountains are a range of great restaurants and cafes that serve delicious food. I personally opted to have my morning coffee and breakfast here.
PIAZZA DEL POPOLO FOUNTAIN
Enjoy the view of the twin churches by the fountain of the lions or head up the long staircase that leads to Pincio Hill’s infamous terrace (piazza napoleone) and enjoy the most beautiful sunset.
A few more steps from there can take you to Villa Borghese; Rome's biggest park.
